തിരുവനന്തപുരം : സി.പി.എം മുഖപത്രമായ ദേശാഭിമാനിക്കെതിരെ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ് വി.ഡി സതീശന്‍ പ്രസ് കൗണ്‍സില്‍ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് പരാതി നല്‍കി. കേരളത്തിലെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് നേതാക്കളെയും കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് പാര്‍ട്ടിയെയും അധിക്ഷേപിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് ‘പ്രോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്’ എന്ന തലക്കെട്ടില്‍ ഏപ്രില്‍ 18 ന് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച വാര്‍ത്തയ്‌ക്കെതിരെയാണ് പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ് പരാതി നല്‍കിയത്.
വടകരയിലെ എല്‍.ഡി.എഫ് സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥിക്കെതിരെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് നേതൃത്വം നല്‍കിയെന്ന് ആരോപിച്ച് നിന്ദ്യവും വൃത്തികെട്ടതുമായ ഭാഷയില്‍ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിനെ ആക്ഷേപിച്ചത് ഗുരുതര കുറ്റമാണ്. ഇതുകൂടാതെ
‘പോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് സൈബര്‍ മീഡിയ’ എന്ന തലക്കെട്ടിലുള്ള കാരിക്കേച്ചറില്‍ കെ.പി.സി.സി അധ്യക്ഷന്‍, പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ്, വടകരയിലെ യു.ഡി.എഫ് സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥി ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് നേതാക്കള്‍ അശ്ലീല വീഡിയെ പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ചുവെന്ന സന്ദേശം നല്‍കുന്നതാണെന്ന് പരാതിയില്‍ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.
വാര്‍ത്തകള്‍, കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുകള്‍, അഭിപ്രായങ്ങള്‍, പൊതുജന താല്‍പ്പര്യമുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള വിവരങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവ ന്യായവും കൃത്യവും നിഷ്പക്ഷവുമായി ജനങ്ങളെ അറിയിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് പത്രപ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനലക്ഷ്യമെഎന്ന് മാധ്യമ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകരുടെ പെരുമാറ്റച്ചട്ടം സംബന്ധിച്ച് 2022ല്‍ പ്രസ് കൗണ്‍സില്‍ പുറത്തിറക്കിയ മാര്‍ഗനിര്‍ദ്ദേശങ്ങള്‍ക്കും പ്രസ് കൗണ്‍സില്‍ നിയമത്തിലെ വ്യവസ്ഥകള്‍ക്ക് വിരുദ്ധമാണ് ദേശാഭിമാനി വാര്‍ത്ത. നിയമവിരുദ്ധമായി പച്ചക്കള്ളം പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ച ദേശാഭിമാനിക്കെതിരെ നടപടി സ്വീകരിക്കണമെന്നും പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ് പരാതിയില്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു.
I am writing to request that the Press Council of India(PCI) take immediate action against the “Deshabhimani” daily for posting exceedingly derogatory, obscene, and baseless news about the leaders of the Indian National Congress in Kerala and referring to the party as “Porngress.”.
Kindly note that the “Deshabhimani” newspaper serves as the mouthpiece of Communist Party in Kerala. The third page of the “Deshabhimani” newspaper, dated April 18, 2024, contains an article titled “Porngress,” alleging the Congress party of spearheading an obscene campaign against Left Candidates. To label a party that has contributed to the independence movement with filthy and disparaging language is an unforgivable offence that must be stopped at all costs.
The accompanying caricature, titled “Porngress Cyber Media,” features photos of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President, Leader of Opposition Kerala, UDF Candidate from Vadakara Loksabha Constituency, and others holding a digital device, indicating that they are spreading extremely derogatory morphed porn videos.
The Norms of Journalists Conduct, 2022, laid down by the PCI clearly mentions that the fundamental objective of journalism is to serve the people with news, views, comments, and information on matters of public interest in a fair, accurate, unbiased, sober, and decent manner.
Furthermore, Section 5, “Caution Against Defamatory Writings,” clearly mentions that “newspapers should not publish anything that is manifestly defamatory or libellous against any individual or organisation unless, after due care and verification, there is sufficient reason or evidence to believe that it is true and its publication will be for the public good.”.
The exceedingly vicious article from “Deshabhimani,” which does not have any iota of truth, is plainly intended to malign and destroy the opposition leaders in Kerala. The article is political in nature, with the goal of gaining an unfair edge in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Section 14(1) of the Press Council Act of 1978 clearly outlines the power of PCI to inquire into the complaint and take necessary action to admonish or censure the newspaper, the news agency, the editor, or the journalist, or to disapprove of the conduct of the editor or journalist.
Hence, I request that the Press Council of India take urgent action against the “Deshabhimani” newspaper for publishing extremely derogatory, indecent, and baseless news against the Indian National Congress and its leaders by invoking Section 14 of the Press Council Act 1978.
