The Global Indian Council (GIC), a United States-based non-profit organization representing the Indian diaspora, in partnership with the Indo American Press Club (IAPC), is pleased to announce their Global Online News Writing Contest 2026. This initiative aims to promote ethical journalism, critical thinking, and original storytelling among writers worldwide.
The contest is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 9:30 AM CST (Central Standard Time), 10:30 AM EST (Eastern Standard Time), or 9:00 PM IST (India Standard Time). Participation is free of charge, but mandatory. Interested individuals are encouraged to register soon at: indoamericanpressclub.com/newswriting.
The contest will be conducted online via Zoom. Participants will be presented with a short video depicting an incident, followed by a brief explanation and instructions. Based on this material, participants are required to compose a news article. Articles may be typed or handwritten; handwritten submissions must be scanned or photographed clearly. All entries must be submitted as PDF files via email within the allocated time frame of 45 to 60 minutes.
Guidelines include maintaining the video camera on for the duration of the session, displaying the participant’s full name on their Zoom profile, and adhering to a word limit of 500 to 800 words. Accepted languages are English, Hindi, and Malayalam, provided the content is originally written—AI-generated content is strictly prohibited. The contest is open to all individuals aged 15 years and and above, worldwide.
The top winners will receive cash prizes: First place – $450, Second place – $300, and Third place – $150. Award-winning articles will be published in the IAPC Newsletter as well as other media outlets. All participants will be awarded digital participation certificates.
