His sincerity, dedication, and continued efforts delivered to the people and the government, especially to uplift the downtrodden remain unparalleled.  The GIC officials recalled that Oomman Chandy, who achieved the most about the development of Kerala was steadfast, and long-sighted, with a futuristic vision for Kerala that will always remain etched in the memory of the people of Kerala in India and abroad. His passion and down to earth nature and continuous contact with people to help the poor and needy were recognized by United Nations Global Award for Public Service in 2013. A few reflections on Sri. Oommen Chandy by Global Indian Council officials :
P C Mathew, Global President
Mr. Oommen Chandy was an unparalleled leader who touched the hearts of millions of common people of Kerala and the Pravasis with his genuineness and simplicity. I have had the good fortune to speak to him on several occasions regarding various issues and he was very positive in his approach. Such a great leader and many upcoming leaders have a lot to learn from him on how to be of sincere service to the community. My prayers are for his entire family, especially his spouse Mariamma Oommen, Children Maria Oommen, Chandy Oommen, and  Achu Oommen.

The final journey of our beloved Oommen Chandy sir from Thiruvananthapuram to Puthuppally Kottayam with overwhelming crowds who were waiting day and night for a last sight reminds us how much he was loved by the people of Kerala. The attitude of Keralites towards Oomman Chandy at the time of his bereavement gives us hope for a better democratic political future for the State and the Nation. Mr.Oomman Chandy was a role model for politicians, bureaucrats, and social activists all alike. I had the opportunity to meet him twice at his Puthuppally home and on a few other occasions to share the dais during social gatherings. I discerned in him the humility and simplicity of a politician, totally committed to his fellow human beings. I wish his departed soul eternal peace and happiness.

Ommen Chandy sir was unparalleled and a very unique individual. We all learned so much from him. He was a university himself and we all can emulate his footsteps. Everyone has a story or experience to share about him. My story is about my brother who passed away 14 years ago in a plane crash along with his 11-year-old son and another pilot Dr. Krish Raghavan. As soon as he saw in the news that 3 people died, he called me and passed his condolences.  I am not at all a big person to be called or closely associated with him. However, I was privileged to receive a State Award from him before the incident. What a legacy Oommen Chandy sir left behind. My prayers and condolences to Mrs. Ommen Chandy, Maria, Achu, Chandy, and all the immediate family members.
Dr. Mathew Joys, Global Media Chair

Tearful tributes to the Real Leader who won people’s hearts, by walking, listening, and redressing their grievances. Oommen Chandy will always be remembered as the political leader who combined honesty, sincerity, gentleness, and the mind to work hard, to be an example to others. “You must be the change you want to see in the world,” said Gandhiji. Kudos to the incomparable Janakeeyan (common man) who put into practice what he said. Let his life and farewell be a model to all who wish to be a public servant. He left with such a great message that human life should be like this. The sun is setting, and the days are yet to wake in the splendor of unending love and goodness OC left behind for us. With much respect and homage to the dear leader; my condolences to the family of Oommen Chandy sir.
