Missionaries of Charity – FCRA issue is a painful shock: CBCI Laity Council

New Delhi: Ministry of Home Affairs refusal of the renewal application of Missionaries of Charity is really a painful shock and a cruel Christmas gift to the poorest of the poor, said Chevalier Adv V C Sebastian, Secretary, Catholic Bishop’s Conference of India, Council for Laity.

He add that,Foreign funding for the Missionaries of Charity, an Internationally renowned charitable organisation has come under a cloud now.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said that in the application of Missionaries of Charity was rejected because “while considering MoC’s renewal application some Adverse Inputs were noticed”.  The government has not explained the  adverse inputs even as the decision to block inflow of foreign funds.
There was no clarity about the “Adverse Inputs”  that the government claimed to have noticed.

All over India Missionaries of Charity has over 240 houses for orphans, the destitute and AIDS patients. Also members of Missionaries of Charity adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty, obedience and of giving whole hearted free service to the poorest of the poor. Their healing touch has given millions of destitute people a new lease of life.

At the present situation after midnight of 31st December 2021,MoC would have no funds to feed its large number of poor people.

V C Sebastian told that, The Central Government must ensure clarity regarding the legal basis of its actions and dispels apprehensions that it is targeting the minority communities in India. The government should also reconsider this issue very seriously and renew the FCRA of Missionaries of Charity at the earliest.
